How is the shrinkage ratio of the heat shrink tube calculated?

In the use of heat sink tube, the shrinkage ratio is a very important indicator. We know that shrink wrap tubing needs to be heated and retracted, and then wrapped on the corresponding object. Our objects have different shapes, and some are simple longitudinal consistent tubular structures, and some have considerable differences in longitudinal dimensions. However, our heat shrink tube is usually required to completely wrap around the smallest cross-sectional dimension of the object after being heated and retracted.

When the longitudinal cross-section difference islittle, choosing a heat shrink cable sleeve with a small shrinkage ratio can not only lower the cost, but also improve the efficiency during the heating process and shorten the heating time. So how is our shrinkage ratio calculated?

The shrinkage ratio of our heat shrink tube refers to measuring the inner diameter ofit in the expanded state as R1, and then it is heated and retracted to be in a fully retracted state. At this time, the inner diameter is measured R2,thenR1: R2 isthe shrinkage ratio . For the dual wall heat shrink tube, the inner diameter here refers to the inner diameter of the layer with glue, but when it is heated and retracted, the glue layer will flow into an irregular shape and it is not easy to measure.

First of all, no matter whether our shrink tube is round or flat, in its initial production process, it is all out of a circular structure. After it is made into a finished product, it will be transformed into other shapes through subsequent processing. When we heat the heat shrink tube, the heat shrink tube will return to the round state without resistance. Therefore, our calculations are based on circular shapes, which is very important. Many customers use flat heat shrink tubes, so they also habitually look at the flat length and width marks in terms of size.

The shrinkage ratio of our heat shrink tube refers to measuring the inner diameter of it in the expanded state as R1, and then it is heated and retracted to be in a fully retracted state. At this time, the inner diameter is measured R2, then R1: R2 is the shrinkage ratio . For the double wall heat shrink tube, the inner diameter here refers to the inner diameter of the layer with glue, but when it is heated and retracted, the glue layer will flow into an irregular shape and it is not easy to measure.

For dual wall heat shrink tubes, there are usually two ways when calculating the retracted inner diameter. One is to calculate the inner diameter of the sheath layer, and the other is to calculate the inner diameter of the heat shrink tube during extrusion. It is also because these two methods have errors, so under normal circumstances, the actual shrinkage ratio of the heat shrink tube will be slightly larger than the nominal shrinkage ratio in design.
