Guide for the selection and use of waterproof cable gland

As the name suggests, waterproof cable gland can be applied to environments with water to provide safe and reliable connector joints. The most important point is to achieve waterproof effects. So how to select the waterproof cable gland? What should be paid attention to in the process of installation and use.

Cable Gland

Introduction of cable gland products:

The main unit, lock nut and sealing nut of the nylon cable gland are made of nylon PA66; the nylon pipe fittings are environmentally friendly, toxicological harmless to human health, no secondary pollution, and suitable for long-time water contact, non-corrosive, non-toxic, and non-rusting. It works at temperature -40℃100℃ in a quiescent state , the transient heat resistance can reach 120℃, the dynamic working temperature is -20℃80℃, and the transient heat resistance can reach 100℃. Special design of claws and rubber parts makes large clamping cable range, strong tensile strength, waterproof, dustproof, anti-salt,  acid and alkali resistant,

grease-proof, oil-proof and other general lubricants resistance .

Waterproof cable gland

The metal cable gland is made from nickel-plated brass or stainless steel, the claw is made of nylon, and the seal uses soft NBR to fasten the cable to avoid the trace after the gland is removed; it has good high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and high pressure resistance performance after the salt spray test not less than 200 hours.

Installation and Application:

Generally, one end of the thread is fixed to the shell, and the lock nut is tightened in the shell to fix it, the cable is directly led out of the waterproof gland, and the lock nut is tightened properly, in this way the cable can be well protected.

Wire gland widely used in the fixing and protection of wires and cables of mechanical equipment, electrical, marine electrical and anti-corrosion equipment.

Main function:

Tightening and sealing of cables.

Tightening refers to tightly locking the cable through the waterproof gland, so that the axial displacement and radial rotation will not happen for the cables, and ensures the normal connection of the cable.

Sealing means to isolate water and dust from entering.



Selection guide:


1. Determine the IP protection level that the cable gland needs to achieve according to the usage environment and requirements of the cable gland;

2. Determine the material and color of the cable gland according to the usage environment and requirements of the cable gland;

3. Determine the thread specifications and thread standards to be used in the cable gland;

(Thread standard description: EN60423 metric thread M; DIN40430 German thread PG)

4. Choose a bayonet that is close to the outer diameter of the cable, and a bayonet range of about +10% as the specific model;

5. Under normal circumstances, it is recommended that O-ring seals must be used to reach the IP67 technical standard;

6.Checking whether it is necessary to lengthen the thread according to the thickness of the machine board

7. If it is used in an explosion or combustible gas environment, an explosion-proof gland is required;

8. If there are electromagnetic compatibility requirements, you need to choose EMC shielding glands;

Precautions for Application:


1. Cable entry glands in different material are used in different environments;

2. It is recommended to use a torque wrench to tighten;

3. When requirement of waterproof rate is above IP65, O-ring seals must be used;

4. In order to ensure that the gland can withstand a certain pressure, it is recommended to add a jacket tube to enhance insulation and protection;

5. In order to ensure waterproof and longer runs, it is recommended to use dual wall glued heat shrinkable tubing and insulating tubing for reinforcement;

6. During construction, it is best to take the way of staggered connecting for the joint lines (that is, the cables do not need to be neatly cut for connecting);

7. The self-adhesive tapes (or heat-shrinkable waterproof tapes) used are all high-voltage products to ensure insulation safety.
